Privacy Policy — Data Quiz
Last updated: 21 September 2026
This policy explains how Visualisedata Pty Ltd ("we", "us") handles information in the mobile app Data Quiz (the "App"). Questions? Contact chris@visualisedata.com.au.
The short version
- You sign in (with Google, Apple, or an email address) so we can save your progress and show leaderboards. Signing in gives us your email address and a basic profile.
- The App shows ads (via Google AdMob) and offers an optional in-app purchase to remove them.
- On iOS we ask your permission before any tracking, and in the EEA/UK we ask your consent before personalised ads. You can decline.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the App at any time.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Google, Apple, or email, we receive your email address and (where you provide it) a display name and avatar. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real email; we then receive Apple's private relay address. We use this to create and secure your account.
Gameplay data. The questions and categories you play, your scores, coins, streaks, badges, and leaderboard entries, so we can run the game, track progress, and rank players.
Advertising data (Google AdMob). To show ads, Google collects a mobile advertising identifier, approximate (coarse) location, and ad-interaction data, and may use device and diagnostic information. Where you have not consented to personalised ads (or have opted out of tracking), Google serves non-personalised ads instead.
Purchases. If you buy the "remove ads" option, Apple or Google processes the payment and we receive confirmation of the purchase (a receipt/entitlement). We never see your card details.
Diagnostics. Crash and performance data to keep the App working and fix problems.
On-device data. Your settings and cached progress are stored locally on your device and removed when you delete the App.
How we use information
- To create your account and save your progress across devices.
- To run quizzes, award coins, and display leaderboards.
- To display ads that keep the App free, and to apply your "remove ads" purchase.
- To diagnose crashes and improve performance.
Advertising, tracking & your choices
Ads are provided by Google AdMob. On iOS 14+, the App uses Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt to ask your permission before tracking; if you decline, you'll see non-personalised ads. In the European Economic Area and the UK, we use Google's consent flow to obtain your GDPR consent for personalised ads before showing them. You can reset your advertising identifier in your device settings, and buying "remove ads" turns off ads entirely.
Third-party services
We use Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple for authentication, and Google AdMob for ads. Data handled by Google is subject to Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy; ads: policies.google.com/technologies/ads); data handled by Apple is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/legal/privacy). Your account and gameplay data are stored on our own servers (self-hosted on infrastructure provided by our hosting provider), not shared with a third-party analytics or advertising profile.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers above (Google, Apple) to deliver the features described, or where required by law.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your account and gameplay data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the App (Settings → Delete account); this removes your data for this app. Because each of our apps keeps its own separate data, deleting your account in Data Quiz removes only Data Quiz's data. You can also contact chris@visualisedata.com.au and we will delete it.
Children's privacy
Data Quiz is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data on servers outside your country, including where data-protection laws differ. Where required, appropriate safeguards are applied by those providers.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information, and to opt out of tracking or personalised ads. To exercise these, contact chris@visualisedata.com.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
